Ankle & Foot Pain

Get rid of your ankle and foot pain, long-term, with Mends’ specialised three step Method.

As you move through the steps, from treatment of your symptoms, to diagnosis and addressing underlying causes, and finally to establishing a prevention plan, all of which will help relieve pain, improve movement and correct dysfunction, long-term.

Orthotics are a proven way to treat foot and heel pain, knee pain and lower back pain as well as preventing injuries in the future- that is why Mend Your Mend Physiotherapist will look at your whole lower body to determine the cause of injury, so it makes sense that when treating an injury we assess the correlation of the injury with the your foot biomechanics.

Three Steps to Recovery

  1. Treat Symptoms

We understand how much pain can impact our lives. So our first goal is to always relieve your primary symptoms- usually pain relating to stiffness, tightness, inflammation etc.

Our therapists will use the latest and best assessment and treatment techniques to treat your symptoms quickly and effectively.

2. Identify underlying Causes

Often the underlying cause or causes are not adequately identified- and so can not be addressed. In this scenario it is not long before the symptoms return. This is arguably the hardest and most important step- one which Mend therapists specialise in.

3. Long-term Prevention.

Pain or stiffness not being present only signifies you are under the pain threshold. To undo years of poor posture, weakness and stiffness Mend will set you up with an individualised, integrated and progressive strengthening programs effectively breaking the cycle of pain.

Custom Orthotics

In order to provide a thorough gait analysis, MEND invested in the “GAITSCAN” system which records the your standing, walking and running timing sequence across a pressure plate in 3D. By using the “GAITSCAN” system it will allow the physiotherapists to determine if the injury the patient is presenting with is linked to their foot mechanics. The Gaitscan system makes a comparison of your foot function to “optimal” function and then generates a report showing these finding in various formats, some pictures in 3D.

From these scans we can order custom made orthotics which will correct biomechanical abnormalities. Orthotics are a proven way to treat foot and heel pain, knee pain and lower back pain as well as preventing injuries in the future.

The Pain Cycle Dilemma

Most people will have muscle or joint pain in their lifetime- and in some cases, recurrently. The main reason for these recurrent episodes is that even if treatment is successful, it is often stopped once symptoms subside- leaving the causes of the symptom untreated.

Breaking the cycle

To prevent another episode of pain or break the current cycle of pain, the first step is to identify all of the direct, indirect and lifestyle causes of your pain and dysfunction.

Once identified, these causes are treated accordingly preparing you for the third and final stage of your rehabilitation Journey.

Since evidence overwhelming confirms that to prevent a relapse in injury long-term, our Mend Health Specialist will assess and then prescribe an individualised and progressive training program to suit your specific needs.
